I loved my Akasuka local food bar hopping tour! Yukio was a fabulous guide - knowledgeable, enthusiastic, sensitive and fun to be with. We explored three very different eating options, in terms of food and environment, and Yukio gave context and meaning to each. As we walked along Nakimase street, he also took the time to tell and show me more about the Sensoji Shrine that I had missed earlier. He helped me with locations for some fun photos and watched out for both my comfort and safety. As a senior woman traveling solo, I wouldn’t have felt comfortable going to these places on my own, so it was wonderful to do it with such a great guide. I highly recommend this tour and most especially Yukio!

We had an incredible time on our evening walking tour. Not only did we see some amazing sights, we also found the tour to be paced really well and it was super relaxing. Our tour guide, Tak, was fantastic and took us to some great little places to try fantastic food & drinks that we would not have tried had we not gone on the tour. Our guide was also incredibly friendly and wonderful to chat with throughout the night about all things Japan and Asakusa.
Thanks for a great tour!

We can highly recommend the Foodie Tour in Asakusa with local guide, Yukio Takahashi, who speaks very good English and is very generous with his time and local knowledge.
Lots of highlights on this tour we did on a Saturday evening in late September this year. One was walking the back streets of Asakusa where all the locals go on a Saturday night, which was packed with people eating and catching up over the local Hoppy brew and a special beef stew. Yukio walked into his crowded favourite shopfront and asked that they fit in the three of us. Some locals made room at their table for us and we struck up a conversation and had many laughs, as the group photo shows.
Next stop was a little upstairs place specialising in Japanese pancakes, the Onomiyaki pancake, which you make yourself at the tabletop hotplate. The best part is adding your choice pf toppings. It was great fun and the result was the most delicious dish, which we have made many times at home since.
What an easygoing, informative, enjoyable and memorable night out with lovely Yukio. Book it, you'll love it!
PS That photo on this website doesn't show Yukio's warm personality at all....

Yukio Takahashi, was very through and professional. He explained everything from background to current history. He even knew where to take the perfect picture. He was very personable and we all enjoyed his company. I would gladly refer my friends to your tour! I had many likes on my Facebook page.

Fantastic !! I must try. I wouldn’t change anything about this tour. My partner and I were abit worried about trying different food. Yukio was fantastic and helped us through it. Showing us what to do and explaining everything. He was so knowledgeable and kind. One of the best tour guides we have had on our trip.
Ended up being a fun night. It’s also good to step out of your comfort zone.

I presented my tour guide, Yukio, with a challenge, as I don’t eat meat or fish. Unperturbed, he found two places to take me: one for tempura and saki, the other for okonomiyaki, Sami and beer. He also walked me around Asakusa and explained the history, in excellent detail.
I would highly recommend the tour and Yukio in particular. He was accommodating, considerate, authoritative and a pleasure to spend my evening with. After a couple of hours we felt like old friends.

Yukio was a fantastic tour guide! So knowledgeable about Japanese history as well as food. We learned so much and also got to try delicious foods! It was so fun to try new dishes as we had only been eating sushi and ramen. And the beer tasting was really fun. Highly recommended!

I went on a number of tours whilst in Japan, but this one was undoubtedly the best up-close experience of city life in a country which has so many new impressions to offer! Toshi was truly our excellent guide, not just for imparting his knowledge of Tokyo and Japanese life in excellent English and in a way which was easy for us to understand, but with enthusiasm, insight, energy and good doses of a wonderful sense of humour. Not only that, but he allowed the tour to take its own form as it proceeded. There were many highlights from the tour, but for me, some of the best were the impromptu time we had with the “Sake-meister” and his family and of course with the group of youngsters at the street-bar – all illustrating just how open and warm the Japanese people can be! Toshi facilitated by translating for us and engaging with them to make it such a spontaneous and memorable encounter. Even now, I can’t think back on it without breaking out into a big, big smile. Thank you, and also to my fellow tour-goer, for giving me one of the times of my life that evening!

Our tour of Asakusa neighbourhood local drinking/eating spots was so much fun. First we went to the brewery, then to taste saki with a master, then to an lzakaya, ending with cooking our own okonomiyaki. Yu was always informative, helpful, and entertaining. No place we went would we have gotten to on our own. Highly recommended

I really had a lot of fun on the Food and Drink tour. Our guide, Yu, did an excellent job in explaining the origins and background of the dishes and alcohol. Meeting an esteemed sake master and learning about the different grades and quality was great, as was the hands on experience of cooking onomiyaki. Servings were generous and the fellow group members delightful. Two thumbs up!

Let me tell that we had a total of four tours with Japan Wonder Travel during our week in japan and all of them were exceptional. The FooDrink Tour in Asakusa was one of my favorites as we were guided by Yu and Yukio who are extraordinary people.
What is this tour about?: you will walk a lot, a lot, so be prepared. Although the tour is focused on food and drink, you will have an explanation on cultural and historical issues about Asakusa. The drinks are a set of Japanese beers at a local pub, a set of Sake cups in a local store and you will have some local dishes with drinks on two small restaurants.
This is not a "gourmet" experience, you will have local food and drinks, but this is what makes that tours awesome; you will walk, eat and drink as a local.
So, if this is the kind of experience you are looking for, you will not be disappointed.

This was a great, fun tour and Yukio was a fantastic guide and provided many fascinating insights to Japanese culture in general.
Glad l took this tour on my first night in Tokyo as it provided a great introduction to Japanese food (delicious!) and drink and gave me added confidence to be bold with my eating and drinking choices the remainder of my trip.

I can not speak highly enough about this tour. They accommodated my late arrival - and the two tour guides Fumito and Chihiro were so informative and personable. This is a must do for anyone visiting Japan, anyone who wants to get a real look at Japan from the eyes of a local. You just could not have an experience like this alone.
Make sure you include this as part of your Tokyo plans - you won't be disappointed. I can't wait to come back and do it again!

It was a pleasure taking the food and drink tour with Yukio. He was informative and took us to places we would not have known about to go.We had a good introduction to Japanese food and drink. When tour was over he even helped us get on the subway since we were apprehensive about taking it thinking we would get lost instead of taking the more expensive taxi.It was very comfortable with Yukio, its a good tour to take during your trip to Tokyo and Japan.

We had a great time on our tour yesterday. It's our first time in Japan and our guide made sure to show us spots we wouldn't have found/tried on our own. Thanks again and we can highly recommend it.

This tour was great! We tried a nice variety of food and drink, and learned a lot. Met a sake tasting master! It was great to go to places with a local, trying things I would not have known how to order. Thank you so much for the lovely evening!

We had a great time with Toshi. Lots of information and laughs. It was nice to eat and drink with a local and ask all those questions we had about all kinds of customs and such. Would recommend this tour.

Excellent Tour. Our guide Toshi was extremely hospitable and succeeded in providing us with a wonderful experience. Yu also shadowed us on the tour and arranged for prompt accommodation at each location we visited. I highly recommend this tour as provided by Japan Wonder Travel.

Our tour with Yu was like having a local family member introduce us to the Asakusa district. The tour was a great way to get comfortable over a few beers and glasses of sake plus, bites of local food with a great guide. We recommend the tour to everyone. This was one of the highlights of our trip.
